New Delhi, February 1, 2025 – Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman announced the launch of a comprehensive “National Manufacturing Mission” while presenting the Union Budget 2025-26 in Parliament today. The mission aims to cover small, medium, and large industries to further the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Key Highlights of the National Manufacturing Mission:

  1. Comprehensive Industry Coverage:
    The mission will provide policy support, execution roadmaps, and a governance framework for central ministries and states, covering industries of all scales.
  2. Focus Areas:
    • Ease and Cost of Doing Business: Simplifying procedures and reducing operational costs.
    • Future-Ready Workforce: Skilling workers for in-demand jobs.
    • Vibrant MSME Sector: Strengthening micro, small, and medium enterprises.
    • Technology Access: Ensuring the availability of advanced technologies.
    • Quality Products: Promoting high standards in manufacturing output.
  3. Clean Tech Manufacturing:
    The mission will support domestic value addition in sectors such as solar PV cells, EV batteries, wind turbines, and grid-scale batteries, contributing to sustainable industrial growth.

Labour-Intensive Sector Initiatives:

  1. Focus Product Scheme for Footwear & Leather:
    To enhance productivity and competitiveness in the footwear and leather sectors, a focus product scheme will be introduced. The scheme is projected to:

    • Facilitate employment for 22 lakh individuals.
    • Generate turnover of ₹ 4 lakh crore.
    • Boost exports to over ₹ 1.1 lakh crore.
  2. National Action Plan for Toys:
    The government aims to make India a global hub for toys by developing clusters, enhancing skills, and fostering a sustainable manufacturing ecosystem. The initiative will promote high-quality, innovative, and unique ‘Made in India’ toys.

Support for Food Processing:

  • A National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Management will be established in Bihar. This institute will promote food processing activities in Eastern India, increase farmers’ incomes through value addition, and provide skilling and entrepreneurship opportunities for the youth.
