The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, in collaboration with the India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA), has announced the TruthTell Hackathon as part of the inaugural World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025. This initiative, under the Create in India Challenge (CIC) Season 1, aims to develop AI-powered solutions to combat misinformation in live broadcasting.
Hacking the Hoax: The Mission to Combat Misinformation
In an era where misinformation can spread rapidly, especially during live broadcasts, real-time detection and verification are crucial for maintaining trust and transparency in the media landscape. The TruthTell Hackathon challenges developers, data scientists, and media professionals to create innovative, AI-driven tools for real-time misinformation detection and fact verification.
Key Objectives:
- Develop AI-powered tools for real-time detection and verification of information during live broadcasts.
- Enhance trust and transparency in news media.
- Promote the ethical application of artificial intelligence in journalism.

- Prize Pool: ₹10 lakh in cash prizes.
- Opportunities: Winning teams will receive mentorship, funding, and incubation support from leading tech professionals.
- Global Participation: Over 5,600 registrations received globally, with notable 36% participation from women.
