Karnataka COVID-19 Update: 148 New Cases, 248 Discharged, and 1 Death on January 2, 2024

Testing Milestones:
Over the last 24 hours, Karnataka conducted an extensive 7,305 COVID-19 tests, including 6,237 RTPCR tests and 1,068 RAT tests.
Positivity and Fatality Rates:
The state’s efforts are reflected in the positivity rate, which stands at 2.02%, and a case fatality rate of 0.67%.

District-wise Breakdown:
Bengaluru Urban reported the highest number of new cases with 75, contributing to a total of 1,888,327 cases. Various districts showed varying numbers of new cases, discharges, and deaths.
Details of COVID-19 Deaths Today:
One new death has been reported, involving a 45-year-old male from Vijayanagar. The individual had symptoms of ILI and cough, with comorbidities including hypertension. The patient was partially vaccinated.
Whole Genome Sequencing Details:
The state continues its genomic surveillance efforts, having sent 601 samples for Whole Genome Sequencing as of December 30, 2023. Results have been received for 262 sequences, detecting variants such as JN.1 (76%), XBB (11%), and others (13%).
