New Delhi, India – January 28, 2025: The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has introduced a new biometric-based Aadhaar authentication and document verification system for GST registration applicants in Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh. The initiative, implemented under Rule 8 of the CGST Rules, 2017, leverages advanced data analysis and risk parameters to enhance the identification process.

The updated system allows applicants to be identified through biometric authentication, a photograph, and verification of original documents uploaded during the GST registration process. Applicants will receive an email following their application submission in Form GST REG-01, containing one of two options:

  1. A link for OTP-based Aadhaar authentication, enabling continuation via the existing process.
  2. A link to book an appointment at a designated GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) for biometric-based authentication and document verification.

Applicants opting for the latter must book an appointment using the provided link and will receive confirmation via email. During the appointment at the designated GSK, applicants must present:

  • A copy of the appointment confirmation email (hard or soft copy).
  • Details of jurisdiction as mentioned in the intimation email.
  • Original Aadhaar and PAN cards.
  • Original documents uploaded during registration.

The biometric authentication and document verification will be conducted for all individuals listed in the GST application Form REG-01. Upon successful completion, an Application Reference Number (ARN) will be generated.
