The association, led by President C Naveen Reddy, revealed that all lorries and trucks, except those transporting essential items like vegetables, medicine, and milk, will stay off the roads until their demands are met.
Reddy criticized the proposed law, emphasizing the unscientific nature of the penalties. Under the new legislation, drivers causing accidents through reckless driving, who fail to report the incident to the authorities, may face a fine of Rs 7 lakh and up to 10 years in jail. Ms. Aruna Nayar, a seasoned officer of the Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) from the 1987 Batch, and an empanelled IRMS officer at Level-16, has assumed the position of Secretary, Railway Board. Her official charge began on 6th January 2024. Ms. Nayar’s distinguished career includes her recent role as Additional Member, Staff at the Railway Board since May 2023, and previously as Principal Executive Director/Staff, Railway Board from February 2022 to May 2023. On 5th January 2024, the Appointments Committee of Cabinet appointed her as Secretary, Railway Board in IRMS Level-16, making her the first IRPS officer to achieve empanelment in IRMS at Level-16.
Ms. Aruna Nayar brings extensive experience in various capacities within the railways. She has served as the Principal Chief Personnel Officer (PCPO) in Eastern Railway, Dy. CPO at Metro Railway/Kolkata, PCPO in Southern Railway, and in other roles at Railway Recruitment Board (Chennai), Railway Divisions of Chennai & Palghat, and Golden Rock Workshop & Division at Tiruchirapalli. This year’s focus includes addressing legacy dumpsites, managing plastic waste, adhering to the principles of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and ensuring the safety of SafaiMitras. The survey, conducted by a team of over 3,000 assessors, emphasizes transforming waste into valuable resources.
Citizen engagement and feedback are pivotal to the success of SwachhSurvekshan, with an unprecedented 12 crore citizen responses received during this year’s assessment, covering a population of around 409 million. The award ceremony at Bharat Mandapam on January 11, 2024, will showcase cutting-edge waste management technologies and equipment, including mechanical sweeping machines, sewage cleaning robots, and waste collection vehicles. An exhibition featuring products crafted from waste by Self Help Groups will add a colorful dimension to the event.
The ceremony, expected to draw over 3,000 participants, will include Urban Development Ministers, Mayors, state and city administrators, sector partners, subject experts, youth organizations, industry representatives, startups in sanitation and waste management, academic institutions, NGOs, CSOs, SafaiMitras, and Self Help Groups. Beyond rewarding the clean cities, the SwachhSurvekshan Awards also aim to recognize cities that have made significant progress and implemented initiatives for garbage-free environments. With a year of hard work, competition, enthusiasm, and dedication to swachhata, the cities eagerly await the announcement of the 8th edition’s winners on January 11, 2024.
Hubballi: A local doctor in Hubballi fell victim to a cyber fraud where an impersonator, claiming to be the DCP of Mumbai, duped him of Rs 30.16 lakh through a video call.
The fraudulent activity initiated with a call from an individual posing as a courier company representative, informing the doctor about a parcel booked in his name. Despite the doctor denying any such booking, he was informed that his Aadhaar card had been compromised, prompting him to file a complaint with the Mumbai cyber crime police station.
Subsequently, another impersonator, using the Skype app, made a video call to the doctor, posing as the Mumbai DCP. The imposter alleged that the doctor’s Aadhaar card was linked to hawala transactions, leveraging this information to threaten and coerce the doctor into transferring the money. A case has been lodged with the cyber police station to investigate the incident.
During the visit, Minister Ajay Bhatt participated in a tree plantation ceremony and received a comprehensive presentation from CEO Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay, outlining C-DOT’s diverse Telecom product portfolio. The presentation covered key telecom security solutions, including real-time detection of malware, enterprise-level threat detection and mitigation, Quantum Key Distribution, and Post Quantum Cryptography.
In an address to C-DOTians and employees, Minister Ajay Bhatt emphasized the crucial role of telecom in Defence, highlighting potential collaborations between C-DOT and the Indian Defence forces. He expressed his vision for C-DOT to contribute significantly to defence indigenization, transforming telecom and cybersecurity in the defence sector.
