Gurugram, January 17, 2025: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has unveiled its much-anticipated Hyundai CRETA Electric at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. Priced from ₹17,99,000 (ex-showroom), this electric SUV is set to redefine the EV segment in India with its bold design, advanced features, and outstanding performance.

Hyundai CRETA Electric comes equipped with two battery options:

  • 51.4 kWh (long range) with a driving range of 473 km (ARAI certified).
  • 42 kWh with a range of 390 km.

Powered by Hyundai’s advanced EV technology, the SUV delivers up to 171 PS of power and achieves 0-100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds. With both AC fast charging and DC rapid charging capabilities, the CRETA Electric can charge from 10%-80% in just 39 minutes using a 100 kW DC charger.

New Delhi, January 25, 2025: Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh and Minister for Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan honored the Super-100 winners of Veer Gatha 4.0 at a special felicitation ceremony in New Delhi. The event celebrated the exceptional achievements of 100 students, 66 of whom are girls, who stood out among over 1.76 crore participants from across India.

Each winner received a cash prize of ₹10,000, a medal, and a certificate. These Super-100 students are among approximately 10,000 special guests invited to witness the Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path on January 26, 2025.

Raksha Mantri’s Inspiring Message

Shri Rajnath Singh praised the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Education for their collaborative efforts in organizing Veer Gatha 4.0. He highlighted the significance of the initiative, which connects India’s youth with the country’s rich history of bravery and sacrifice.

Commending the achievements of students like Nemneineng from Manipur, who overcame personal hardships to secure a spot among the Super-100 winners, he emphasized that true heroes uplift the nation and inspire society. “India’s young population of 50 crore will play a pivotal role in achieving the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047,” he said.

He also urged students to draw inspiration from iconic freedom fighters and soldiers like Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, and Ashfaqulla Khan, while reminding them of the importance of humility and perseverance in achieving success.

Minister for Education’s Address

Minister for Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan underscored Veer Gatha’s success in fostering creativity and patriotism among students. He lauded the initiative for its record-breaking participation, with over 1.76 crore students from 2.5 lakh schools engaging in drawing, painting, and essay writing to honor India’s gallantry award winners.

“Veer Gatha instills values of patriotism, grit, and national pride, inspiring students to contribute to the nation’s progress,” he remarked, while congratulating the Super-100 winners and all participants for their enthusiasm and creativity.

During the event, Param Vir Chakra Awardee Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar shared his inspiring story from the 1999 Kargil War. He urged students to embrace bravery, selflessness, and integrity in their lives, emphasizing that true courage lies in standing for what is right.

The accident occurred on Wednesday morning while the victims were traveling from Savanur to Kumta market for the weekly fair. The deceased have been identified as Fayaz (45), Waseem (25), Ijaz (20), Sadique (30), Gulam Hussain (32), Imtiyaz (40), Alfaz (25), Jilani (20), Aslam (24), and Jalal (30).

The truck, reportedly carrying over 30 people, lost control, possibly due to a pothole or imbalance, according to initial police reports. The vehicle toppled and plunged into the valley, leading to the fatalities and injuries.

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has fined Vision IAS ₹3 lakh for misleading advertisements about the UPSC Civil Services Exam (CSE) 2020 results. This action was taken to protect consumer rights and ensure that advertisements comply with the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

What Happened?

Vision IAS claimed in an advertisement:
“10 in Top 10 selections in CSE 2020 from various programs of Vision IAS.”

While the ad featured the names and photos of successful candidates, it failed to mention the specific courses they took. This omission created a false impression that all the top candidates were enrolled in its classroom foundation course, which was untrue.

Findings by CCPA:

  • Rank 1 was a classroom student of the GS Foundation Course (₹1,40,000), but others opted for different, less expensive programs:
    • 6 candidates took only Mains test series.
    • 2 candidates enrolled for the Abhyaas Prelims mock test (₹750).
    • 1 candidate chose the Prelims test series.
  • The test series and mock tests played a minor role compared to the comprehensive Foundation Course. Many candidates cleared other stages (Prelims, Mains, and Interview) independently.

Why This Matters:

By hiding details about specific courses, Vision IAS misled potential students into believing all its programs had equally high success rates. Transparency in such ads is crucial to help students make informed decisions about enrolling in coaching programs.

CCPA’s Actions:

  • A fine of ₹3 lakh was imposed on Vision IAS.
  • The authority highlighted that similar practices are common among coaching centers. To date, the CCPA has issued 46 notices to various institutes and imposed fines totaling ₹74.6 lakh on 23 coaching institutes for false advertisements and unfair trade practices.

IWAI Opens Regional Office in Varanasi to Boost Inland Water Transport in Uttar Pradesh

Varanasi, 23 January 2025: The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), under the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, has inaugurated a new Regional Office in Varanasi to strengthen inland water transport (IWT) activities in Uttar Pradesh. The upgraded office aims to streamline projects on National Waterway-1 (NW-1), the River Ganga, and other waterways in the state.

With this addition, IWAI now operates six regional offices across India, including Guwahati, Patna, Kochi, Bhubaneswar, and Kolkata. The Varanasi office, alongside its sub-office in Prayagraj, will oversee a 487-kilometer stretch from Majhua to Varanasi Multi-Modal Terminal (MMT) and further up to Prayagraj.

Focus on Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP)
A key priority for the new office is the implementation of the World Bank-supported Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP), which aims to enhance the capacity of NW-1. The project includes river conservancy works such as bandalling, maintenance dredging, and infrastructure development to facilitate smooth cargo movement and promote cruise tourism.

Under JMVP, three Multi-Modal Terminals (at Varanasi, Sahibganj, and Haldia), an Inter-Modal Terminal (Kalughat), and a navigational lock at Farakka, West Bengal, have been constructed. Additionally, 60 community jetties are being built across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal to support local farmers, artisans, fishermen, and commuters.

Expansion Beyond Ganga
The Varanasi office will not only focus on the Ganga but also its tributaries and other declared national waterways in Uttar Pradesh, including the Betwa, Chambal, Gomti, Tons, Varuna, Gandak, Ghaghra, Karamnasa, and Yamuna rivers. It will also coordinate with the State IWT Authority for holistic waterway development in the state.

A Vision for Growth
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, IWAI has been expanding its reach, transforming waterways across India into engines of economic growth. Beyond NW-1, the Authority is focusing on capacity building for NW-2 (Brahmaputra), NW-3 (West Coast Canal), and NW-16 (Barak River) through dredging, navigational aids, and terminal development.
