The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is organizing a two-day capacity building workshop on the ‘Monitoring Frameworks of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Compilation of Environment Accounts, and Gender Statistics,’ scheduled for January 23-24, 2025, in Bhopal. The workshop, co-hosted by the Government of Madhya Pradesh and supported by UNDP India, aims to enhance skills and knowledge in three crucial areas: SDGs, environmental data, and gender statistics, empowering informed decision-making.

The event will bring together representatives from various government ministries, state departments, and international agencies to discuss key issues and share best practices. The workshop will be graced by important dignitaries, including the Deputy Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, the UN Resident Coordinator, and senior officials from MoSPI and the Government of Madhya Pradesh. During the event, the report titled ‘Ocean Ecosystem Accounts in India – A Framework: A report by the Expert Group’ will also be released.

On Day 1, discussions will focus on SDGs, with sessions covering essential indicators, sub-national frameworks, and the role of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in supporting SDGs. Experts from NITI Aayog, MoSPI, and UNDP will lead the sessions. A special presentation will explore Madhya Pradesh’s efforts in implementing SDGs at the state level.

Day 2 will shift the focus to the environment and gender topics. Key sessions will emphasize the importance of environmental accounts, valuing ecosystem services, and using gender statistics to design policies that promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. International experts will share global best practices on environmental data and gender statistics, highlighting the need for better data integration into policy-making.

This workshop aims to build capacity in these critical areas, providing participants with valuable insights to drive better decision-making at local and national levels.
