Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar to Open NIMHR’s Expanded Campus in Sehore

Sehore, Madhya Pradesh – Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar, is set to inaugurate the newly constructed administrative, academic, hostel blocks, and studio apartment at the National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation (NIMHR) tomorrow. The ceremony will also witness the presence of Madhya Pradesh ministers Shri Karan Singh Verma (Department of Revenue) and Shri Narayan Singh Kushwaha (Department of Social Justice and Empowerment), alongside Bhopal MP Shri Alok Sharma and Sehore MLA Shri Sudesh Rai.

The state-of-the-art campus aims to bolster mental health services and rehabilitation efforts, serving as a hub for education, community engagement, and awareness. NIMHR’s efforts include public education on mental health, reducing societal stigma, and empowering individuals with mental health challenges to reintegrate successfully into society.

Facilities and Features

The new campus comprises specialized service blocks offering therapies like neurotherapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and advanced diagnostics including MRI and CT scans. Additional facilities include:

  • Administrative and Academic Block: Equipped with 16 classrooms, a library, faculty offices, and administrative rooms, alongside a Cross-Disability Early Intervention Centre for children with disabilities.
  • Hostel: Separate accommodations for boys and girls, with reserved facilities for Divyangjan students.
  • Studio Apartments: A block with 23 double-bedded rooms for visiting staff and professionals.

The Institute’s service blocks host 70 rooms dedicated to doctors, vocational training, and clinical services, alongside pantry and cafeteria facilities.

About NIMHR

Established in 2018 under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Ministry of SJ&E), NIMHR focuses on mental health rehabilitation and education. Currently, it offers diverse courses such as caregiving certification, diplomas in community-based and vocational rehabilitation, and a post-graduate diploma in rehabilitation psychology.

NIMHR is also a hub for clinical services, including psychotherapeutic interventions, psychological assessments, and tele-counseling. Departments such as Psychiatry, Clinical Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, and centers for Occupational Therapy and Yoga Sciences form the backbone of its operations.
