New Delhi, February 6, 2025 – In a significant step towards enhancing international cooperation in clean energy, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in partnership with the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), organized a two-day India-UK Standards Partnership Workshop on Green Hydrogen in New Delhi.

The workshop aimed to foster collaboration between India and the UK on hydrogen standardization, focusing on green hydrogen production and regulatory frameworks. The event is part of the UK Government’s Standards Partnership Programme, which seeks to promote the adoption of international standards in India to accelerate economic growth, attract investment, and boost trade.

Ms. Abbey Dorian, Energy Sector Lead at BSI, emphasized the shared commitment of India and the UK to becoming global leaders in green hydrogen and achieving a net-zero future. “This workshop underscores the importance of knowledge exchange, standardization, and innovation in building a sustainable hydrogen market,” she stated.

Key discussions centered on the development of safe, scalable, and globally harmonized Regulations, Codes, and Standards (RCS). Additionally, the event highlighted the need for fast-track Publicly Available Specification (PAS) standards and international hydrogen certification to ensure a robust regulatory framework.

The initiative also aligns with BIS’s efforts under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. Participants identified gaps in existing standards, explored new opportunities, and engaged with global experts to enhance India’s certification, testing, and standardization processes. Insights from the discussions are expected to bolster India’s green hydrogen economy, making it more sustainable and competitive on a global scale.

The workshop featured engaging deliberations by policymakers, technical experts, and industry leaders from both nations. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Rajiv Sharma, Deputy Director General (Standardization-I) at BIS, Ms. Laura Aylett, Head of Climate and Energy at the British High Commission, and Ms. Abbey Dorian from BSI. Their remarks reinforced the shared vision of India and the UK in fostering innovation and sustainability within the green hydrogen sector.

This collaboration marks a crucial milestone in India-UK relations, paving the way for enhanced bilateral cooperation in clean energy and hydrogen standardization.
