Dharwad:
The Dharwad Municipal Corporation has undertaken a cleanliness drive across several residential areas of the city.
As part of the drive, municipal corporation sanitation workers are cleaning garbage accumulated on streets and public spaces and affixing awareness posters requesting residents not to dispose of waste in open areas. This action has been taken despite the availability of daily door-to-door garbage collection vehicles that visit households regularly.
In a few streets and residential localities, garbage was found dumped on roadsides and open corners, gradually turning these spots into informal garbage dumping areas. Such dumping has been affecting the cleanliness of the surroundings.
To address this, municipal garbage workers are clearing the waste from these locations and placing visible posters at the cleaned spots, urging residents to hand over household waste to the designated garbage collection vehicles instead of dumping it on streets.
The cleanliness drive is currently being carried out in multiple residential areas of Dharwad.
