Biometric Aadhaar Authentication Introduced for GST Registration in Rajasthan

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has introduced a new biometric-based Aadhaar authentication and document verification process for GST registration applicants in Rajasthan. Effective from January 7, 2025, this feature aims to enhance the security and accuracy of the GST registration process.

Key Updates in the Registration Process

  1. Amended Rule 8 of CGST Rules, 2017
Applicants can now be identified through data analysis and risk parameters using biometric-based Aadhaar authentication. This includes taking the applicant’s photograph and verifying original documents submitted during the application.
  2. Procedure for GST Registration Applicants
After submitting Form GST REG-01, applicants will receive one of two email links:

    • OTP-Based Aadhaar Authentication
This follows the existing process, allowing applicants to complete authentication online.
    • Appointment for Biometric Authentication
A link for booking an appointment at a GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) will be provided. Applicants must visit the GSK for biometric Aadhaar authentication and document verification.
  3. Appointment Booking for GSK Visits
    • Applicants can now book appointments through the provided link.
    • A confirmation email will be sent upon successful booking.
  4. Documents Required for GSK Visits
Applicants visiting a GSK for verification must carry:

    • Appointment confirmation email (hard/soft copy)
    • Jurisdiction details from the intimation email
    • Original Aadhaar Card and PAN Card
    • Original documents uploaded during application
  5. Timelines and Verification
    • Applicants must complete the biometric authentication within the permissible timeframe mentioned in the intimation email.
    • Application Reference Numbers (ARNs) will be generated upon successful biometric and document verification.

Enhanced Security and Streamlined Process

This new feature is designed to ensure better verification standards and reduce fraudulent registrations. Applicants are advised to adhere to the guidelines and carry all required documents to avoid delays.
