NIXI Launches Internship Program to Build Internet Governance Experts in India

The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) has launched a unique Internet Governance Internship and Capacity Building Scheme to increase awareness and build expertise in internet governance among Indian citizens. Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and Chairman, NIXI, introduced this initiative.

Aim of the Program

This scheme is designed to develop future leaders who can address internet governance challenges globally. Participants will work with organizations like ICANN, ISOC, IEEE, and IETF and gain hands-on experience under the mentorship of global experts.

Key Features of the Internship

  • Two internship tracks: 6-month and 3-month programs.
  • Monthly stipend: ₹20,000 for each intern.
  • Guidance from international experts, retired government officials, and university faculty.
  • Focus on outreach programs to spread internet governance awareness.

Shri S. Krishnan emphasized the need for diverse voices in internet governance, encouraging youth to take up the challenge and contribute to shaping a fair and inclusive internet.
